Week 6: Concert Lights

Hope everyone has been having a good week! For this week I am sharing a photo I took last November at the last concert I attended before quarantine. My friend and I were able to get barricade for this concert, so I was able to take such a close up picture! The artist we went to go see is a South Korean group called ONEUS. Because they had to travel from very far for this tour, the amount of set items they were able to bring was very limited, so they heavily relied on lights and projections to fill the empty stage space.

The LED screen behind them displayed videos as well as a moving background during their performance and the automatic moving lights seemed to be controlled from the light board located on the balcony of the venue. I really enjoyed how the lights matched with their music and dance whether it came to timing or colour. For a more energetic song, I noticed the use of more warm and exciting colors, while darker cooler tones were used for ballad performances. Overall, attending this concert made me realize how much lighting design plays a role in concerts and live events. I feel I also have a new found appreciation for everything light design related thanks to this class. I hope to pay close attention to the lights and how they are utilized at the next concert I attend after quarantine!

  1. So glad you are gaining a new appreciation for light from this class. Also, really great ideas pulled from your memory of the concert and how lighting helped connect you to the music and the band. Nice post! - Please remember to add in your name to the subject line.
